Skipper Jon Worthington will be available for the final three matches of the season and not suspended for the next two, as had been thought.

Worthington missed the ban deadline for 10 bookings by just 24 hours, had he been booked the day before it would have stood, as it is the Football Association have confirmed he’s clear to play against Millwall at the Galpharm on Saturday.

‘To miss the ban deadline is really pleasing and I’m already looking forward to the last three games, because it’s important we round off positively.

‘This has been a very disappointing season, no buts about it, and that goes for all of us, but a new manager is here now, he can see what he’s got in the squad, what he needs to freshen things up with signings in the summer and we need to finish off well.

‘Wins breed confidence. We need three points to seal this season against Millwall and then we want to go into the summer with some more points under our belt. That’s what we are aiming to do.’

‘We were a bit aggrieved about both the goals,’ (against Scunthorpe) added Worthington.

‘Sometimes decisions go for you and sometimes they don’t, and this was an occasion where they didn’t go for us.

‘I thought in the first half we held our own, we were solid and kept our shape.

‘In the second half maybe we tired a bit and Scunthorpe, who were well up for it with a great atmosphere and only needing one win for promotion, got a bit of momentum.’

He added: ‘We were all up for the game but we lacked a bit of quality a times, which was disappointing, and the pitch was difficult for both sides.

‘I think we will see a big impact from the new manager next week in his proper first match in charge, a few more lads will be off the treatment table by then and we’ll have the chance to mathematically seal safety in front of our own fans, which would be great.’
