Huddersfield’s Academy v’s Arsenal

Following on from our article of yesterday, ‘The Money Go Round’, we did get some interesting comments particularly on Huddersfields academy and the Arsenal team being almost entirely devoid of British players these days, in stark comparison to the other major premiership sides, all three of whom have made it to the Champions League semi finals.
What started out as a light hearted joke seems to have stirred a bit of debate here at Vital Huddersfield.

Do you think it’s acceptable for clubs like Arsenal to rely on foreign players, or those British players they can pick up from lower league clubs academies like Huddersfield and of course Crewe being a prime example of a club constantly producing talent that goes on to play for the premiership clubs (Hulse, Ashton etc)

Also does this undermine the English national side, should we be pointing our fingers and chants of ridicule not at Steve McClaren but at Arsene Wenger, for putting so little back into the English national side, and dramatically reducing the pool of talent available to the National manager whilst at the same time greatly assisting the French, Spanish and African nations players to gain valuable top flight experience.

Let us know what you think, its certainly worth thinking about and discussing.

  • Big Cheese says:

They did have Ashley Cole, and currently have Walcott.

  • Terriers says:

Wenger would be back managing in La Ligue if the money was as good as the premiership.

  • Galpharm says:

If Wenger was managing Marseilles or PSG etc, the only reason he wouldn’t have the same team is he couldn’t afford the players on the french attendances.
