Match Report: Huddersfield 2-1 Bristol City

Elias Kachunga and Nahki Wells struck for Huddersfield as they climbed to 4th in a 2-1 win over Bristol City.

Town started brightly, Wells and Kachunga linked up well before the Bermudian striker fired wide.

Rajiv Van La Parra had an effort stopped before Town broke the deadlock, Kachunga released the ball to Smith on the right who whipped a fierce cross into the box which Kachunga met to head home his 6th goal of the campaign.

Town could’ve gone 2 ahead minutes later, when Smith was picked out once more down the right hand side, he found Wells in the area but Fielding was equal to his effort.

Bristol nearly found themselves level on the half hour mark as Aden Flint headed just wide of the goal from a Luke Freeman corner.

The Robins didn’t have to wait much longer for the leveller, Schindler fouled Tomlin to the right and Freeman’s free kick caused problems for the Town defence. Flint nodded the ball to Wilbraham who squared it for Abraham to notch his 13th of the season.

Just before the break, Van La Parra stinged the palms of Fielding with a venomous shot from outside the box.

The sides went in level at the break, both teams feeling they could go on to win the match.

In the 49th minute Keith Stroud had a game changing decision to make when Bristol goalkeeper Frank Fielding handled outside the area to stop the on-rushing Nahki Wells. To the home fans disappointment, Stroud produced a yellow card for Fielding and gave a free kick to Town on the edge of the box.

But you could say justice was served ten minutes later, a strong back pass from Korey Smith put Fielding under pressure and he took a heavy touch which Nahki Wells pounced on, to put the Terriers ahead once more.

Bristol had a couple of half chances through Abraham near the end but Huddersfield held out for a much needed win.

Town rise to 4th in the Championship, and full of confidence as they face Burton Albion away from home on Tuesday night.

In conclusion, Huddersfield were the stronger of the sides on the day, and their performance warranted three points against a Bristol side who were poor on the day.
