Huddersfield secured a 2-1 win over Bristol City in the Championship on Saturday.

Huddersfield‘s five game winless run came to an end when Nahki Wells got the winner against a Bristol City side that were fortunate not to lose keeper Frank Fielding to a second half sending off.

Elias Kachunga got Huddersfield off to a great start when he headed in a cross from Tommy Smith early in. However, Bristol City were level through prolific Chelsea loanee Tammy Abraham shortly past the half hour mark.

Bristol City keeper Fielding escaped with just a yellow card when he handled outside of his area but his mistake minutes later led to the Huddersfield winner. Fielding’s error from a backpass gifted Town striker Wells the winner with the hour approaching.

A first win since 22nd October took Huddersfield back into the play-off zone and up to fourth.

David Wagner was full of praise for match winner Wells when speaking post-match. The Huddersfield boss was quoted by the BBC as saying.

‘I am very happy for Nahki. The goal came from a mistake by the goalkeeper but Nahki chased down the keeper and deserved that. Nahki works very hard and he had a role in the first goal when he made a run to open up the space for Elias.’

As for the win itself Wagner felt it was a ‘massively huge’ one for Huddersfield against a difficult side. The boss also said for Town to have a 50% win ratio at this stage of the season was ‘fantastic.’

He added.

‘The players performed very well against a very hard opponent and we are very happy and proud. This was a massively huge win for us – 20 games have gone and we have 10 wins, which is fantastic. But we can only celebrate for a few minutes before we focus on the next game.’
