More Money Madness
Or is it a really, really good idea, have your say.

In case you have not heard, but you probably have.

The English Premier League is considering the idea of staging some matches around the rest of the world.
At a meeting in London on Thursday, all 20 clubs agreed to explore a proposal to extend the season to 39 games.

Those 10 extra games, one per club would be played at five different venues, with cities bidding for the right to stage them.

It is understood the additional fixtures could be determined by a draw but that the top-five teams could be seeded to avoid playing each other.

Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore told BBC Sport: ‘I think it’s an idea whose time has come. It’s an exciting prospect.

We believe that an ‘international round’ of matches will enhance the strength of the Barclays Premier League as a competition

‘Every time there is an evolutionary step, the reaction of the fans is not always great but I would ask them to take a step back and look at the positives.’

The Football Association has given its provisional support to the plans.

A final decision on the proposals will not be made until January 2009.

The main aspects of the plans are:

An additional round of Premier League fixtures, extending the season to 39 games, from January 2011

Four clubs to travel to one of five host cities, with two games taking place in each venue over a weekend

Cities would bid for the right to become a host, (big money earner for the FA) not for individual matches

Points earned from the games would count towards the final Premier League table.

We at Vital Huddersfield have been saying that money is taking over the game, here is yet another example.

The Champions could be decided on the fact that for instance Man Utd drew Derby County to play in this extra game and Arsenal drew let’s say Aston Villa for example.

Or what if Arsenals game was drawn to be played in temperate New York, and United’s in polluted, humid Shanghai, surely this system is open to massive corruption, fraud and if not, just plain old unfairness.

What is your view ?

Its a great idea, what the problem, money is a good thing, we wouldn’t complain if we were in the premiership. Nice trip away for the fans too, imagine getting your ticket to see them play in LA, New York, Sydney, Tokyo, man it would be brilliant !

the club may get extra money, but what about us the fans? we have to pay for two flights, possible one night accomodation and tickets. it just seems a silly unprofessional idea if i’m honest

  • 80s terrier says:

Why do we need to play abroad..All the foreigners are over here..lol….

  • Town Fan 82 says:

I think its still a ridiculous ide been listening to everyone talking about it and if it were to happen im just glad we play in this league i wouldnt be travelling abroad for a game and it would certainly put me off the extortionate prices they charge per ticket at the top end of our league. Absolute Disgrace, really needs some top managers and players to come out and say no chance but they will be pocketing the money so do they really care???

  • Big Cheese says:

A few managers have come out against, as has Gordon Brown !, but a number of managers have said they are in favour, not much quoted reaction from players yet, that I have seen.
