Midfielder Chris Atkinson has been handed an improved extended deal with Huddersfield after impressing in recent months.

Huddersfieldhave an option of a further year on the Academy product, whose original deal was due to expire in the summer.

Atkinson had been on loan with Chesterfield at the start of the season and after impressive displays for the Spirites, when he returned Simon Grayson had no fear in putting the young midfielder into the Town first team.

Atkinson indeed scored on his start against Leeds, and whilst the result of that match may have left a sour taste in everyone’s mouth Atkinson has gone on to shine whenever called upon.

Atkinson made his Huddersfield Town debut in the 2010/11 season against Macclesfield and has since had loan spells with Darlington and Chesterfield.

Atkinson scored 5 goals in 15 appearances for Chesterfield, and since returning has made 6 appearances for Huddersfield in the Championship.

Atkinson described his new deal as ‘Fantastic news’
