Jamie McCombe is back at Huddersfield Town after Lee Clark ended his loan spell at Preston early.

The Terriers have skipper Peter Clarke suspended for the Boxing Day clash with Chesterfield and gaffer Lee Clark has seen signs from McCombe that he is ready to step back into the Town side.

The 28 year-old featured 5 times for Preston as he helped tighten up their defence during his loan spell that has ended 11 days prematurely.

Lee Clark spoke to the official site about the reasons for recalling the giant defender:-

‘Obviously Peter (Clarke) is suspended, but there is more to recalling Jamie than that. I’ve been watching Jamie closely and during his time at Preston, as part of a good setup, they have only conceded two goals in five games.

‘When Jamie gets into his rhythm he is a top centre back and that is what has happened at Preston. The move has benefited everyone; Preston became tighter as a defensive unit, it certainly benefited Jamie and it will benefit us now he is back here, so it was a no brainer really.

‘Unfortunately after his red card against Leyton Orient he wasn’t in the team and we are in a position where we need everyone flying every single game. This was always the plan; Jamie going to Preston was never going to be for the long term or permanently. The loan was to benefit everyone – most importantly Huddersfield Town.’

So it will probably be a safe bet that McCombe will be in the Town side on Boxing Day.

Welcome back Jamie.
