Head coach David Wagner admitted in the aftermath of Play Off success at Wembley that he would speak to Jurgen Klopp over Danny Ward.

With Ward playing a pivotal role in our rise into the Premier League this season, not least his penalty save from Obita in the shootout, a somewhat overwhelmed Wagner confirmed he would be speaking to his old friend in a couple of weeks about the stoppers’ future.

Quoted by Sky Sports following the success, Wagner said of the Liverpool goalkeeper.

‘I need to take a few weeks to get my head around it. I will have a lot of phone calls to make. I will call Jurgen, but not just to talk about Danny.’

Not just to talk about Danny is the interesting bit there really and not just because of three penalty saves across the Play Offs, and we’ll have to see if deals can be done for Izzy Brown and Aaron Mooy once more.

Speaking about the game itself, well the penalties, he went on to say.

‘I said to the players that the easiest thing in football is to put the ball from 12 yards into the net. Now after 10 months you have the opportunity to go to the Premier League and all you have to do is put the ball in the net from 12 yards. Take this easy challenge and do it. Everybody who wants to do so raise their hands. And they said: ‘Okay give me the opportunity’.’

Adding.

‘But I was pretty surprised when Schindi said: ‘I’d like to take the fifth one’. But he was totally confident, so I said okay.’
