Head coach David Wagner has reacted to last night’s draw against Torino FC.

Facing Torino out in Jenbach, Huddersfield had to come from behind twice in the game to take a two all draw from the most recent pre season friendly, and our goals came from Elias Kachunga and Steve Mounie.

Huddersfield:

Jonas Lossel, Chris Loewe (Scott Malone 64), Christopher Schindler, Mathias Zanka (Michael Hefele 45), Tommy Smith (Sean Scannell 64), Aaron Mooy (Dean Whitehead 64), Philip Billing (Danny Williams 45), Rajiv van La Parra (Kasey Palmer 45), Tom Ince (Collin Quaner 64), Elias Kachunga (Joe Lolley 64), Steve Mounie (Laurent Depoitre 64).

Unused substitutes:

Joel Coleman, Ryan Schofield, Mark Hudson, Rarmani Edmonds-Green.

Speaking to the Huddersfield Daily Examiner as he met the media following the game, Wagner admitted he certainly had a selection dilemma following the game as we now turn attentions to Crystal Palace next weekend in our Premier League opener.

‘It was a typical pre-season match, but it was a better draw than the one on Tuesday against Stuttgart. We had some good moments in the offence and probably had more than we have had in previous matches. We scored two good goals and could even have scored a winner. The goals we conceded were both from corners but, generally, we didn`t give too many opportunities away in open play.’

He went on to add.

‘Of course I have to think about the line-up, this is why we have the squad we do – they all have high quality. There will be decisions to make before the Crystal Palace game but we need everyone, and I am very happy everyone has come through this game healthy. Now we recover, fly back to England and begin the final preparations on Tuesday for our first Premier League match.’

As for an injury update, Wagner went on to confirm that Jonathan Hogg missed the last few games because of an ankle injury that has ruled him out of next weekend as unfortunately the knock is worse for the 28 year old than originally thought and he could now miss August.

‘We hope he will be back in the pitch with the medical department at the end of next week. If he progresses quickly he may be able to help us before the international break and we will be very happy. If not, then I am sure he will be back at some point after the international break.’

Martin Cranie is also struggling with a hip injury and he’s likely to be out for six to eight weeks and it’s now possible 22 year old Dimitri Cavare could get a short term deal having been on trial with us to boost numbers and let Wagner take a longer look at him.

‘We will make a decision on him over the weekend. I think his trial was good and now we will negotiate with him and Lens to see if we can come to some sort of arrangement.’
