Smithies set to leave?

Huddersfield Town could be set to lose rising star Alex Smithies at the end of the season after he rejected the clubs latest contract offer.

Alex has of course just broken into the first team ahead of Matt Glennon and with his contract up in the summer there is now a question mark over his future at Huddersfield Town.

Town Saviour and Charirman-elect Dean Hoyle exclusivley told BBC radio Leeds ahead of the Leicester game :-

‘We offered his agent exactly what they wanted to the penny and we expected him to sign last week.

‘But higher division clubs are now after him and that is the problem. But we won’t sell him at the moment’

‘The likes of QPR, Spurs, Everton and Portsmouth are all scouting him.

‘The agent rang us up and told us the goal post had moved after we thought we had a deal.

‘We don’t want to disable the club or Alex so at worst he’ll leave in the summer.
‘We’ll then go to a tribunal for him as we feel he’s worth a lot – we’ve had him since age eight.

‘There is no hard feeling here between us and Alex. If he wants to further his career with another club then good luck to him.

‘This season is important to us and we want Alex here until the end of the campaign.

‘We are not a selling club and he will be here until the summer.’

What do you think?

Agree with Dean?

Should Alex be commiting his future to Huddersfield Town?

Fair comments..To me the major downside of having an accademy is that when you produce a rising star he gets snapped up by the bigger predator clubs waiting in the wings to pounce…Clubs should be allowed to write certain clauses into accademy contracts to stop this sort of thing happening..Oh and for the good of the game in general,ALL agents should be gathered up,stood against a wall, and SHOT..

well if he wants to go and rot in a premier league teams reserves let him do it.
i think he should be loyal and stay for another couple of years then look for the big move

I agree with all this and can’t help thinking that Smithies agent will be influencing his ‘younger head’ for the ‘pay day’. Smithies is not ready for any higher and will definately will rot away if he goes at this stage……… he’s a young lad with dollar signs & glory hunters waving at him and he can’t see it. Shame.

    if he wants to go
and rot in some premier league reserves
and rot on the bench and play 2 games aa season for the next 10 years
    then let him go
but let him go in the transfer window for a few million
if he wants to be a greedy bugger let him go.
you say his agent will be doing this, but he could just intervene and say no and sign the contract. if he wants to leave put glennon back in and let him sit on the bench for the rest of the season
