Tommy Smith has thanked his teammates for their support after he was thrust into first team action 3 matches ago, following the knee injury suffered by Captain Peter Clarke.
21-year-old Smith has come in and played in central defence with Anthony Gerrard and Joel Lynch in place of the skipper and it is a credit that Clarke’s absence has not been felt.
Smith playing 90 minutes in victories at Sheffield Wednesday & Bolton with a home victory over the then leaders Burnley in-between.
Smith spoke to htafc.com ahead of the trip to Ipswich, where he is set to make a fourth start in a row, as Town chase a fourth consecutive victory.
“I am just doing my best for the Club,”
“The Captain is a great figure and is loved by everyone; I respect him more than anyone. He has been brilliant with me and has supported me over the last couple of weeks. I haven`t felt any added pressure; I have just stepped in and done my best.
“The Manager, the staff and all the players have shown a lot of faith in me recently, which has been a big confidence boost.”
The morale in the camp is very high and we are a close knit group; everyone is pulling in the same direction’
