JON STEAD has yet to feature for Town in their pre-season schedule.

That isn’t down to selection issues but rather that injury has struck already.

Stead suffered a tear in his abdomen that has ruled him out for much of the pre-season game time, although he did complete the training camp in Spain, prior to the friendly game schedule.

The initial appraisal was that Stead would be sidelined for 3 weeks and Robins confirmed, at the Rotherham victory yesterday, that Stead is still at least 10 days off a return.

Meaning that Town will have Stead, Southern, Gerrard & Anton Robinson all sidelined for the start of the season.

It’s a shame to have so many on the treatment table so soon, but perhaps shows the reason that some Town fans haven’t yet taken to the re-signed Stead as he has suffered with injuries in recent seasons, missing crucial game time. This reason alone could be why Town are still being linked with moves for other strikers!

Peter Clarke is back following some summer surgery and his return couldn’t have been more timely with Joel Lynch feeling his hamstring during pre-season, although he was back and played 88 minutes against Rotherham.

heard a lot of positive & negative comments from Town fans since Stead re-signed.

Have to say at the minute the negative crowd are extremely loud – they did voice concerns over his fitness – but then they said it about Vaughan.

Injuries are unfortunate and part of football – lets just hope he can stay fit once he recovers from this otherwise fans opinions will remain split……..

And as an old saying goes……..
