The Football League Board of Directors is to ask clubs to amend The League’s ‘Sporting Sanctions’ regulations at their Annual General Meeting in June.

The Board is seeking to close the existing loophole that enables clubs going into administration, once effectively relegated, to avoid any negative effect from the ten point deduction imposed by The League.

Clubs will be asked to introduce a new cut-off date (to be agreed following further discussions with clubs). The ‘Sporting Sanction’ for clubs going into administration after this date will be deferred until the following season in cases where the club is subsequently relegated.

Football League Chairman Lord Mawhinney said: ‘The League Board has made the right decision. The original intention of ‘Sporting Sanctions’ was that clubs should suffer a penalty by going into administration, as a spur to better financial management.

‘None of our clubs have done anything wrong but we need to take steps to make these sanctions meaningful.’

Vital view – For none of our cubs have done anything wrong, read Leeds United exposed a loophole in the system that effectively means they have got away with it, and we don’t want anyone else to do so.

“Loophole” in the rules meaning it isn’t against the rules. We’ve exploited something quite rightly in the best interests of the club. You’d soon be happy had you done the same thing. Sorry but accept it. We acted within the law and have done the best in the interests of the club.

I quite agree, not against the rules, but that doesn’t make it right. What about all the people who bought tickets for the final games thinking Leeds could stay up, or all those people who placedc bets on them, and so lost their bests. Legally ok is one thing morally ok is quite another. If it were Hudds Town i would be ashamed.

  • Terriers says:

You have got to hand it to Ken Bates, he has managed to make Leeds less liked than they were already, which all things considered is some acheivement.

  • VanMan says:

Its just so funny, they even cheat off the pitch as well as on it.

  • Hudders says:

    Leeds, you mean Yorkshire Chelsea.

  • Terriers says:

    No I mean Leeds Blues.

  • Hudders says:

awright mate, diamond geezer, sorted, lets get darn the boozer for some flat beer, London chairman, London management.

  • Towntalk says:

If Town did that we would all pretend it was ok, just like Leeds are, so you cant blame Leeds but the Football League.

  • LUFC1 says:

I do agree, it certainly doesn’t make it “ok” but we have exploited a loophole that is there and therefore done the best for the club. It’s the football leagues fault, and their decision to “investigate” the rule structure does nothing but further point out their errors.

  • Hudders says:

Be a couple of good games next season, for Town against Leeds, I just look forward to them becoming a Yorkshire club again.

  • Terriers says:

No let em carry on with Dennis “what you looking at” Wise, he got em relegated without the 10 points deduction.

  • Hudders says:

Little blokes, are always hot heads, you can see the chips on their shoulders from miles away, hands off Ritchie i say. I cant see the little thug getting them anywhere.
