Jon Worthington is set to make an emotional return to Huddersfield, in what will be his first game against The Terriers since departing for pastures new at the end of last season

Worthington was of course with Town since the age of 9 and had progressed through the clubs academy system, he went on to captain Huddersfield Town and was involved in the promotion campaign under Peter Jackson that saw Town return to league one.

He spoke to Oldham’s official site about the prospect of returning to Huddersfield:-

‘Obviously it will be special to go back, but the most important thing is for Oldham to try and get a positive result’

‘Huddersfield are strong at home so we know it will be a tough game, but if the lads keep working hard for one another, as they have been doing, I am sure we are capable of nicking a result’

‘Both teams need the points as Huddersfield are pushing towards the top and we are fighting fopr our lives at the bottom so it promises to be a good game’

‘I would like to think I will get a good reception as I helped them win promotion and captained the side, but you never know in football’

Worthington has had an injury hit time since he joined Oldham in the summer and he went on to add:-

‘May be I have rushed back too quickly to help the lads but it is a case of needs must, but if I am involved in any way at Huddersfield, I will be out there doing my best’

Jon is obviously not the only ex-Huddersfield player currently on the books at Oldham!

Fellow Huddersfield academy product Andy Holdsworth also now earns his crust at Boundary Park, but the former Terriers right back is currently sidelined through injury.

Jim Goodwin is also ruled out through a thigh injury for Oldham, although he would have been inellegible due to the loan terms between the clubs.

Ex-Hitman Pawel Abbott will also be out to hurt Town, he is currently the Latics top scorer with 13 goals, he recently saw another ex-Town striker Keigan Parker depart Boundary Park on loan to join Bury, so no reunion there!
