Pre-season training is well underway and the first friendly has now been played and Town secured a 1-0 win.

As you would expect from pre-season players were heavily rotated in the clash with non-league Gateshead, all of the new signings bar the injured Calum Woods featured.

Former Gateshead man Lee Novak scored the only goal of the game just before the half hour mark when he headed home a cross from Conner Sellers, who is at the club on trial.

Sounded like a good workout, but what we need now is for Lee Clarke to get his 1st 11 sorted out firmly in his mind, and get them used to playing together as a team.Idealy we could have done with keeping the squad together so we could hit the ground running at the start of the season, but im sure we all knew realisticaly that that wasnt going to happen.Personaly i couldnt care less who we sell,so long as we bring in better players to replace them.My immediate concern is not who is leaving but the amount of players that are comming in.What we want to avoid is having 11 individuals out on the pitch early on in the season who havent had long enough to get to know each other properly. It takes a good proportion of the season for a rebuilt team to gel,as weve seen over the last 2 seasons. These previous inconsistent starts have cost us valuable points.Points that we cant afford to drop if were going for automatic promotion come the end of the season.Im confident Lee Clarke will get it sorted, but the clocks ticking away, and we havent got long now till the bury game.
