Another of the players allowed to leave Huddersfield at the end of last season, Matt Young, is closing in on a move to resurrect his career with League Two Rochdale, who have invited him along to join them for pre-season.

Rochdale, who missed out on promotion to League One after losing the play-off final to Stockport, had wanted Young on loan in March, but injury ruled this out. However he will now look to impress them in pre-season much to his delight: ‘They’re a progressive club who were unlucky to lose out to Stockport in the play-off final,’ Young told the media. ‘I liked what I saw during my earlier spell there, and I would have loved the chance to play for them on loan, but it wasn’t to be.

Injuries made his time with the Terriers difficult, with him not really able to establish himself under various managers before Stan Ternent decided to release him. This hurt him as he had been with the club since he was 11-years-old, but he wasn’t overly surprised and isn’t bitter, he added: ‘I won a regular place under Peter Jackson the season before last, but I was injured when Andy Ritchie arrived, and I never really got back on track.

‘It was the same when Stan Ternent took over, and it wasn’t really a surprise when he told me I was being released.

‘It’s a bit of a wrench, because I’ve been at the club since I was 11, but these things happen in football and I believe in my ability.

‘I was restricted by my rib injury at the end of last season, but I’m feeling really good now and I’m looking forward to getting down to some hard work.’

Do you think that Young has the ability to earn himself a contract with Rochdale, do you even care?

No doubt he’ll come back to torment us at some stage like the others before him … So more to the point, who are we going to replace all these cast offs with..??? Theres been loads of sabre rattling about there being 4 or 5 more players yet to be signed, but where are they??? Come on Dean spill the beans !!!! This isnt good enough… Whats happened to the new regime, you know the one of openness that’s supposed to have taken over from the secretive Ritchie days..???
