Huddersfield Town head coach David Wagner has declared himself pleased with the club’s business this month and said that’s the lot for the month.
Speaking to the Official Site as he met with the media to discuss this weekend’s clash with Stoke City, Wagner said he believed he now had great competition in the squad following the capture of Alex Pritchard and as far as he was concerned, our January business was now over.
Starting with some thoughts about Stoke following the appointment of Paul Lambert, he explained.
‘In terms of changing the manager, usually you never like playing against a team when the opponent changes the manager a few days before you meet them. In this case we played stoke three or four weeks ago so we are totally aware of their individuals and what they are capable of. We played against Paul Lambert twice since I`ve been here in Huddersfield; Blackburn away when he was in charge and Wolves away when he was in charge, so this means we are aware of what Paul Lambert`s mindset is. So, I don`t expect major surprises even though they changed the manager because of these two reasons. We played Stoke a short time before and Paul Lambert is someone we have met more often as well, so that`s why in this case, that they changed the manager it isn`t just a big thing for us I think.’
Talking about the January transfer window, Sky Sports also quote him as saying.
‘I think we’ve done our business and I’m not in the market. Even if I have my eye on the market I’m very happy with the players we have. Of course something could change in the next two or three weeks but if everything goes to plan we’ve done what we wanted to do and I’m very happy with what we have together, and this is why we don’t have to discuss further names in this window.’
Asked about speculation linking the club with a move for Borussia Dortmund’s Neven Subotic given they worked together previously, Wagner refuted that talk and also insisted speculation suggesting a move for Chievo’s Belgian midfielder Samuel Bastien was also wide of the mark.
‘I know Neven very well, a great guy, a very good character and a very good player as well but as everybody knows in the centre back position we have no pressure or no problems.’
Adding about Bastien, that he hadn’t heard the speculation himself, so having asked for more details he said.
‘Okay, no.’
