Smithies set to leave?

Huddersfield Town could be set to lose rising star Alex Smithies at the end of the season after he rejected the clubs latest contract offer.

Alex has of course just broken into the first team ahead of Matt Glennon and with his contract up in the summer there is now a question mark over his future at Huddersfield Town.

Town Saviour and Charirman-elect Dean Hoyle exclusivley told BBC radio Leeds ahead of the Leicester game :-

‘We offered his agent exactly what they wanted to the penny and we expected him to sign last week.

‘But higher division clubs are now after him and that is the problem. But we won’t sell him at the moment’

‘The likes of QPR, Spurs, Everton and Portsmouth are all scouting him.

‘The agent rang us up and told us the goal post had moved after we thought we had a deal.

‘We don’t want to disable the club or Alex so at worst he’ll leave in the summer.
‘We’ll then go to a tribunal for him as we feel he’s worth a lot – we’ve had him since age eight.

‘There is no hard feeling here between us and Alex. If he wants to further his career with another club then good luck to him.

‘This season is important to us and we want Alex here until the end of the campaign.

‘We are not a selling club and he will be here until the summer.’
