REPORT: Cherries Down Town

Huddersfield Town failed to bounce back in this Easter Monday fixture at the Seward stadium.

The Terriers lacked any bite in attack and were perhaps lucky that the game finished at just 2-0 to Bournemouth.

The hosts dominated large spells of the game, and were creating chances at will.

The dangerman Marc Pugh had the beating of Tom Clarke at right back everytime and after collecting an early booking Clarke failed to snub out this threat.

It was Pugh who created the first after good work, he forced a save from Alex Smithies and after a goal mouth scramble left-back Scott Malone was on hand to tap in the opener. It was more than the Cherries play deserved.

So would this rile Town as they went for a potential equaliser?

The answer was sadly not, as Bournemouth continued to press, 10 minutes later man of the match Marc Pugh settled the 3 points and the game with a well taken goal.

Pugh took possession of the ball 20 yards out and ran at the Town defence, who parted like the red sea, leaving Pugh with a one-on-one chance against Alex Smithies and there was only one winner, Pugh slotting into the bottom corner of the Town net.

This gave caretaker manager Paul Groves his first win since taking over from Lee Bradbury whilst Town have now suffered as many defeats under Simon Grayson as they did under Lee Clark for over a year.

This was also Huddersfield’s first defeat against Bournemouth away since April 1991. A run that had lasted 12 games but 13 was certainly unlucky for Town
