Murray Wallace will come back into the Huddersfield Town squad for the Boxing Day trip to Rotherham.

The defender was re-carded at Norwich for a clumsy last man challenge and had to sit out the defeat to Birmingham; with Anthony Gerrard stepping up to take his place.

Gerrard did give away the freekick that lead to Birmingham’s winner but surely doesn’t deserve to be dropped after just one game back in the side?; Which is my concern listening to Powell’s pre-match comments

“When he (Wallace) got that chance he played ever so well against Brentford, which was a tough game to come into, and I felt he got to grips with the pace of it, made some timely interceptions and showed a lot of bravery.

“I thought right, you are on your way, but then we went to Norwich and everyone knows what happened with the red card.

“Now, he comes into the reckoning again, especially with two games in three days.

“We are going to have to be cute with the balance of the squad because it`s a tall order, two games in three days.

“I know people think it`s only football, but this league can be quite brutal, so I`m pleased to have Murray back in the fold.

Powell obviously didn’t see him play at Blackpool away last season!

I’ll give him the dues that he has put in some good shifts but his lack of experience and slightly strange running style will always make me nervous when under pressure situations, ala the game at Norwich.

There is no doubt he is a committed professional and a good squad player but for me not a regular first teamer, with Centre Back perhaps been the weakest position at the club, as it has been for quite a number of years now.

Powell also revealed that the club turned down several loan offers for Wallace as he see’s his future firmly with the first team, something that may worry the Town fans who were hoping for a new central defender to come in January!
