Peter Jackson signed Matt during the summer and his departure came as a big shock to the keeper.

‘I was very surprised with the events of last week. Obviously, it was not a great result in the match at Nottingham Forest and it’s been an up-and-down season but it still came as a massive shock to the lads when he told us. It wasn’t nice and I had a good relationship with Peter – I spoke to him later on that day and obviously he was upset.

‘Sadly, it’s part and parcel of life at a football club and I’ve seen managers come and go at other Clubs in my past. You just have to get on with it and it’s down to us to earn our money on Saturdays.

‘Gerry has only been in charge for a week and as such there is no big difference yet. I’m sure that will change after a while, as he will want to put his own stamp on things.’

As far as I’m concerned, the season is far from over. It’s been such a weird league and another two wins would see us close down that eight point gap and be right in there with the chasing pack with seven games to go.

We just have to keep winning games and I know I always want to win every game I’m involved in as a matter of personal pride – I hate losing!’
