Town manager Andy Ritchie talked recently about how he would ideally complete the makeup of his squad for the 2007/08 season.

The manager has a firm idea of which positions he wants to strengthen before the first League One match on 11th August.

‘I’m still looking at the wide left and wide right positions as well as somebody else up front. Once we’ve sorted that, we may have a look at bringing in a left-back depending on if there is enough budget.

‘I’m quite happy to go with Joe (Skarz) but he is only a young lad and if he does have a bit of a sticky patch and he loses form, then we might need somebody there with a bit of experience.’

‘I closed in on one player a couple of days ago, but it then looked like that possibility had dried up. However, it now has a little bit of a glimmer about it and now we are chasing up a few phone calls. I met with another player last week who said that he wanted to sort things out before he went on holiday but now he has gone, so I don’t know how far down the line that is going to be. I’m actually meeting with another player this week, which we think might be fruitful, but it’s just a case of chasing around really. We will try to bring in as much as we can.

‘One or two of the players are quite close to agreeing a deal, but they are trying to keep their options open. Unfortunately, that is what you have to put up with.’

‘There are one or two who may benefit by going out on loan – Danny Racchi being one such example. I’ve still not seen much of the other lads, like James Berrett and Lucas Akins, and so I would like to assess where they are in terms of their development before I say whether a loan spell would benefit them. It’s easier for you to get players out on loan if they have been in the first-team, which they have, but at the minute we’ll just monitor that situation.

‘They will all get a chance to play in pre-season because I have got to have a look at them.’

Talks with the Blackpool two, Chris Brandon and Paul Rachubka, will take place after the upcoming League One Play-Off final against Yeovil Town on Sunday 27th May.
