HTFC – Town go out with a wimper

Huddersfield Town blew their chance of a chance of promotion via the play-off final this season, and they can only have themselves to blame

Lee Clark kept faith with the side that had held Millwall to a bore draw at the Galpharm, with the exception of Robbie Williams who stepped in for the injured Tom Clarke.

However the night wasn’t to be for Town as Millwall sealed their place in this seasons play-off final with goals in either half of the game.

Millwall’s top-scorer Steve Morison put the Lions ahead in the 23rd minute after Town keeper Alex Smithies could only parry Danny Schofield’s cross from the right directly into his path.

Things didn’t look great for Town from then on as Millwall went on to have several opportunities to extend their lead, as the Town players simply lacked the desire and work rate to compete this evening.

Scott Barron then hit the woodwork for the Lions midway through the second period with Smithies well beaten and soon after Paul Robinson headed home a second with eight minutes remaining to book Millwall’s place in the play-off final.

Millwall will now go on to face Swindon in the final, whilst Huddersfield and Lee Clark must go back to the drawing board and solve the problems that we all know exist!

At fault for the first goal and that goal ended the night effectively
