HTFC- Town beat Wycombe

Jordan Rhodes grabbed his 21st goal of the season with a stunning overhead kick, enhancing Huddersfield’s play-off push at the same time

Rhodes opened the scoring after just 22 minutes, it was a scrappy start to the game with neither side really getting a foothold in the game, but Rhodes 21st of the season sparked Huddersfield into life.

Neal Trotman nearly added to his account from a corner but his header rattled the bar!!

Huddersfield had other chances to extend the lead but the next goal came courtesy of a solo effort from Theo Robinson just after half time on 52 minutes.

Robinson has struggled of late in front of goal and has found himself back in the side thanks to injuries to fellow frontmen Robbie Simpson and Lee Novak, and scoring goals will certainly help him to retain his place, with both Simpson and Novak resuming trainign this week.

Wycombe did pull a goal back on 73 minutes, if only to make sure my match prediction was correct, but they never really troubled Huddersfield throughout and the Yorkshire side took home all three points as well as re-claiming 6th position in the table.

On to Oldham on Tuesday Night!

Player Ratings

Smithies 7
Made a great save late on to keep the three points, will have been disapointed to have lost the clean sheet to the smallest man on the field

Peltier 7
Solid performance yet again for one of the contenders for player of the season

Heffernan 7
Looking much stronger and seems to be getting to grips with the pace of the English game, has Lee Clark offered him a contract for next season?

P Clarke 8
Commanding… Nothing got past the Captain today as he lead by example

Trotman 8
Came close to scoring, but was excellent at the back, easily one of his best games at the club so far.

Pilkington 7
Some wicked crosses from Pilks, seems to be getting back on form at just the right time

Roberts 7
Non-stop workrate from the little winger, threatening throughout

Collins 7
Good game from COllins involved in both goals

Drinkwater 7
This guy has suddenly hit form, complete opposite to his form at the beggining of the season.

Rhodes 8
Stunning first goal, worked hard throughout, looked tired towards the end

Robinson 7
Excellent taken solo goal, after being fed by Collins.

Was a surprise to see him replaced so soon after scoring

Eccleston 6
Had a chance immediately after coming on, nothing else of note

Kay 5
On for 13 minutes and picked up a booking

Manager Rating
Lee Clark 8

Got the tactics spot on, and after dominating the game will be disapointed to have a tense last 15 minutes.

Opponent Rating
Gary Waddock 7

Much harder working side than the one that visited the Galpharm, however they will struggle to stay in the division

Lee Clark
“Our two finishes were fantastic by both strikers but we could have made it a lot more comfortable for ourselves.

“I thought the goal we gave away was poor and we should have had the game wrapped up by then.

“I am not a crackpot and I love winning but I am disappointed we did not see the game out better and we let Wycombe back into the game.

“Their goal started in their own defensive corner and we had enough chances to cut it out before it went in.”

Gary Waddock
‘Both the goals we gave away were poor, and against a good Huddersfield side it makes it very difficult,’

‘You couldn’t fault our work rate but we didn’t work their goalkeeper enough. We didn’t do enough in both boxes. After their second goal we took the game to them, but then we had no other choice. It was another one of those games.

‘We don’t like coming away from games either losing or drawing – I don’t like this feeling and neither do the players and supporters. The game at Walsall on Monday is a must win – we need a winning mentality. If we have a nightmare but we win, I will take that.’
