Church Punishes Huddersfield Sinners

Simon Church scored the only goal of a drab FA Cup fourth round tie in West Yorkshire.

Huddersfield created enough chances to win it but were made to pay as Church profited from Charlton’s only shot on target of the whole game on 54 minutes. Oscar Gobern lost the ball in midfield and Lawrie Wilson played in Church who found the bottom corner of Alex Smithies net.

The Addicks were making their 3rd trip this season to Huddersfield; having come away with nothing on their previous two visits.

Truth told if Huddersfield had been more clinical then this would have been a repeat result, however The Terriers seemed determined to squander the chances they were creating with Danny Ward missing an open goal after great wing play from Sean Scannell to out the ball on a plate for the make-shift striker.

Substitute Duane Holmes also created a glorious chance for himself, waltzing through the Charlton challenges as if they weren’t there, but he couldnt defy Addicks keeper Ben Alnwick at the final hurdle.

“We brought it on ourselves a little bit. We had enough chances to win the game and we haven`t taken them. We had 14 or 15 shots and I don`t know how many hit the target, but my guess is not many. You have to stick the ball in the net and we haven`t done it.

“They had one chance and they found the corner of the net, I don`t know if the rain slowed us down but we were really lack lustre in the second half.”
