Bore Draw at WHCS

The afternoon started off on a slight sour note, as John Vaughan, who was warming Glennon up with a few shots.

Vaughan hit a stinging shot straight into the Town fans and straight into a lady’s face.
This was an accident and by no means intentional, but it took Vaughan 5 minutes to come into the crowd to apologise. When he did he recieved a round of applause from the Town fans but Paramedics soon took the unfortunate Lady away.

Both sides settled into the game quickly and Town looked the more likely to make a breakthrough. Andy Holdsworth and Boothy going close with a superb volley that had the Col U keeper worried.

Mark Yeates looked tricky and had the beating of Matt Glennon, who didn’t move, but not the bar on 29 minutes, from a freekick given away just outside the box.

HALF-TIME: COLCHESTER UNITED 0 HUDDERSFIELD TOWN 0

The teams came out for the second half but it was Mr.Shoebridge who was the centre of attention this half, he gave several baffling decisions against Town, that had the players, management, and travelling support baying for his blood.

Perhaps the worst was when Danny Cadamarteri was on the break in the 57th minute, he had two men to beat and was adjudged to have lunged on Paul Reid who went down like a sniper had just shot him.

Town then had a stone wall penalty claim denied by Mr.Shoebridge in the 62nd minute. Jon Worthington’s shot clearly handled and smothered by Heath on the 6 yard line. The referee later admitted he had seen the handball, but declared it unintentional! Maybe he thought Heat was the Goalkeeper??

Andy Booth had the last chance right at the death, the travelling support trying to suck the ball into the net.

There was one thing more than anything that spoiled this game and that was Referee Rob Shoebridge who probably should have had a blue and white shirt on in the second half.

Probably on balance a fair result, with both teams looking out of ideas in the second half and resorting to long ball tactics.

Perhaps Stan should have made a change, with the away support begging for Keigan Parker to be introduced.

But this is a point gained and not two lost, we looked very solid at the back and with a new addition for the problematic left side, we should see plenty more fruitful away performances this season.
