WATN – Simon Eastwood

Ex-Town trainee Simon Eastwood.

SIMON Eastwood perhaps a forgotten man by Huddersfield Town fans, the Ex-England U19 keeper never got the chance to shine at The Terriers due to a certain Alex Smithies.

Eastwood could perhaps count himself unlucky to have graduated from The Terriers academy at the same time as Alex Smithies, a dilemma that threatened his development.

Eastwood spent a spell on loan at Bradford City, under then manager Stuart McCall, he returned halfway through the season to Town as Bradford signed Matt Glennon from Town instead (I’m glad we got rid of him!)

Simon managed to fix himself up with Oxford United, who were featuring in the league after winning promotion the season before.

However Eastwood was unable to get into the team at Oxford and despite having a year to run on his contract has found himself released by the club.

Simon has found himself another new home and has joined FC Halifax Town who will be competing in the Blue Square Bet North league next season. He will face competition from another former-Terrier in Phil Senior for the number one shirt.

SO good luck to Simon, may the curse of being overshadowed by other former and present Huddersfield keepers lift soon.

I’m sure that Simon will gain a move back to a football league club in the future and at 21 time is still on his side.
