Danny Ward has had his contract extended by 12 months with the challenge to earn a longer deal at Huddersfield Town.

Ward who finished the season in style with a hat-trick at Watford in the final game of the seasonwants to prove his worth, knuckle down and earn a longer deal.

The club and Ward had been in discussions to extend his deal but couldn’t agree a deal intially so Huddersfield took the option they had of a further year in his current contract.

The 23-year-old who joined Town for a reported £1 million from Bolton Wanderers in 2011 after a successful loan spell, is the club’s second longest serving player, only behind Alex Smithies who has been at the club since junior level.

Ward finished last season as thew club’s second highest scorer on 10 goals.
