The Championship season continued with the latest round of play-off games.

Reading saw off the challenge of Fulham to book a place in the end of month play-off final – the Royals will face Huddersfield after Town beat Sheffield Wednesday in a penalty shootout.

Here’s a round-up of the action.

Tuesday 16th May 2017 – CHAMPIONSHIP
Reading 1-0 Fulham 19:45 (2-1 agg)

Wednesday 17th May 2017 – CHAMPIONSHIP
Sheffield Wednesday 1-1 Huddersfield Town 19:45 (1-1 agg – Huddersfield won 4-3 on penalties)

Reading booked a place in the play-off final at Wembley following a 1-0 win over Fulham, who had finished sixth, on Tuesday – securing a 2-1 aggregate win over Slavisa Jokanovic’s side.

Veteran striker Yann Kermorgant who held his nerve to score from the penalty spot leaving Jaap Stam a game from Premier League promotion in his first season as Reading boss.

Shortly after this play-off final clinching victory Reading announced Dai Yongge and Dai Xiu Li had become majority shareholders.

Literally nothing could separate Sheffield Wednesday and Huddersfield as Sunday’s game ended 0-0 with Wednesday’s going to a penalty shootout having finished 1-1 after 90 minutes and nothing changing in extra time.

Without a further breakthrough a shootout was needed – during this Huddersfield’s on-loan Liverpool keeper Danny Ward saved two penalties sending Town to Wembley and Wednesday will have to reflect again on what might have been after defeat in last season’s final against Hull.

Reading now bid to return to the topflight whereas Huddersfield are looking for a first ever campaign in the Premier League.
