It’s the worst possible news for striker James Vaughan, as it’s been confirmed he has fractured his eye socket and his cheekbone following the game against Middlesbrough.

The 26 year old took an accidental, but nasty, kick to the face during the first half and he had to be substituted after only 24 minutes.

Speaking after the game, manager Chris Powell explained about him and Jonathan Hogg who also took a knock.

‘Vaughney has gone to hospital and I hope he’s ok. Hopefully his eye and cheekbone are ok. James was very groggy when he came off, there was no way he was carrying on as he didn’t know where he was. Let’s hope there no real lasting damage. Jon Hogg got a knock to his thigh, which was a real shame too.’

The gaffer went on to say that irrespective of Vaughan’s involvement in our next game, there is no secret that he’s on the look out for another striker, and that will now take priority given Vaughan’s lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Today, the injury was confirmed and it’s another blow for the player who has already missed 13 matches with a torn calf, also suffered in the game against Middlesbrough last September.

Fans will remember he missed the last eight games of last season as well because of a knee problem that required surgery – do I have to list the opponents of the last game he played?

Methinks it’s time we gave him a Middlesbrough bye in the future!

Posting on his twitter feed, Vaughan said.

‘Just the fractured eye socket and fractured cheekbone!! Cracking stuff’

Later he added about timescales before he can return.

‘Not sure yet. Find out more this week. Hopefully won’t be too long’
