The long run ends!

At last, the long winless run has ended!

Town fans everywhere can now breathe easily once again as the jinx is finally broken with a workmanlike rather than enterprising performance against League 1 strugglers, Blackpool.

Town were the quickest out of the blocks as a Schofield free kick was somehow scrambled away by Jones in the Blackpool goal and their early passing movements were starting to make inroads into the shaky looking Blackpool defence even before the first goal was scored.

Abbott wasted a good chance when clean through. His touch was poor and it allowed Jones the opportunity to smother the ball at his feet. Then on 9 minutes, Brandon cut in from the right to force a corner which was taken by Schofield, and forced home by TOM CLARKE with a curling shot, hit with the outside of his right boot and past Jones into the net.

This did seem for a while, to spur on Blackpool and Rachubka in the Town goal had to be alert to deal with an attempt from Parker almost immediately from the restart. Blackpool were causing one or two anxious moments even though overall, Town dominated possession and were still creating chances of their own. Tom Clarke forced Jones into another save as he settled into his new role in midfield with some relish and really looks a great prospect for the future in this position.

However, Town suffered a blow in the 38th minute when McIntosh limped off and was replaced by Mirfin.

Half Time 1-0

The Terriers were forced into another change as Andy Booth did not reappear in the second half and he was duly replaced by Taylor-Fletcher who carved out an early chance for himself with some skilful work only for the end-product to be disappointing.

Blackpool?s tactics certainly became more ?physical? as the second half wore on and they were perhaps fortunate to pick-up only 3 yellow cards, whilst Abbott was also booked for Town. Whether this was frustration at his long barren spell or a futile attempt at retaliation for some of the challenges he was receiving it is hard to tell, but the caution was an unnecessary one to concede as Town were not really being pressed by Blackpool at this stage.

On 73 minutes, Jon Worthington was adjudged to have been tripped in the box and Town were awarded a penalty kick. Maybe Abbott should have been given the chance to end his drought but DANNY SCHOFIELD stepped up and although his shot was parried by Jones, he was first to react and drove the rebound beyond the prostrate keeper and into the net.

Apart from a few half chances for Town, this wrapped up the game. Blackpool finally realised that the game was out of their reach now and Town were content to play out time for their first win of 2006. All in all a good 3 points and hopefully now that the psychological barrier has been broken, Town will be able to resume their winning habits of earlier in the season.

Full Time 2-0

You’ve got to get a moveon now and keep picking up points, right till the end of the season.
