Rotherham United beat Leeds United to the signature of Huddersfield winger Danny Ward.

That’s according to Rotherham manager Steve Evans who revealed to BBC Radio Sheffield, ‘We thought he was going to move to our Yorkshire neighbours Leeds United but we moved very prudently with our chairman backing us.’

Ward’s departure was announced early yesterday but only became official late in the day with the former Bolton trainee joining on an initial emergency loan deal so that he can feature for Rotherham at Brentford today.

A permanent deal will go through next week with the fee rumoured by some press as being £350k

although this tweet was later corrected to read:-

A permanent deal is yet to be agreed for Hammill; who with a year left on his deal at Huddersfiedl is surely worth more than this on his own; however for Town to have received money to this value for Ward alone is surely a good piece of business for both clubs

As is standard these days I am sure the fee’s will go down as undisclosed from the official sources!

And as we say goodbye and thank you for his time with the club let’s reflect on the goals he did score for the club in his near 4 year spell with the Terriers.

What would have made Twitter implode more, Ward joining Rotherham or Ward joining Leeds,…. I doubt the Leeds move was anywhere near a done deal otherwise can’t see Ward choosing Rotherham over his former trainee club where he was as a junior
