Huddersfield are very much on the lookout for new talent, in fact Mark Robins and Ross Wilson have been in Europe recently and have trips to Spain, France, Germany and Sweden planned.

However, as he told The Examiner, head of football operations Wilson has played down links with Mansfield striker Matt Green. He said: ‘As the season ends, speculation always begins, and we can expect to be linked to different names almost daily.

‘Sometimes stories begin merely because our scouts have been at a game. At other times, players, agents and clubs with agendas might use our name to further their own cause.

‘As a club, we prefer to carry out our recruitment on a low-key basis, but I can confirm we are in a strong position, we do not need to sell players and we want to enhance our squad.’

Wilson might not exactly have been speaking with Green in mind, with this more of a generalisation of things but it was said in The Examiner that “sources” within the club have played down such a rumoured interest.
