Huddersfield are in buoyant mood ahead of their trip to face Liverpool at Anfield, with the side show of it being Jurgen Klopp versus David Wagner, the two best friends in football!

Whilst Huddersfield were triumphing by two goals to one over Manchester United last weekend, Liverpool were being taken apart by Spurs at Wembley on the Super Sunday match up on Sky Sports.

To preview the upcoming game we spoke to the guys over at Anfield HQ, you can see our answers to their questions by clicking here

1. Talk us through your season so far

A mixed bag. We’re probably the most frustrating side to watch in European football at the moment. At the start of the season, everybody knew that our defence was our weak link, but we’ve gone through a stage recently (bar Maribor) of creating about 30 chances per game, having all the ball, but struggling to score one.

Meanwhile, the opposition will carve out about 5 chances and manage to score 1 or 2. It’s not good on the heart!

We started well. Some of the football we played against Hoffenheim and Arsenal was spectacular, but it’s our defence that continues to halt our progress.

It’s a crying shame because everyone can see our potential in attack and if we shored up at the back, who knows what we’d have achieved in the last few seasons. It needs sorting.

2. Where do you think you will end up come 13th May

It’s very hard to say. Sort out our defence and we should have more than enough to finish in the top four. If not, with Champions League football as well, we’re going to struggle.

3. What do you guys know about Klopp’s best friend David Wagner ?

The first I heard of Wagner was when he was rumoured to be joining Klopp’s coaching staff when he moved to Liverpool, so I was intrigued to see how he would perform when Huddersfield snapped him up. What a shrewd appointment. The sort of one that I think a lot of the bigger clubs should be looking out for rather than just the same old names.

We’ve heard plenty of stories about Wagner from Klopp since he arrived in England. He really does adore him. So much so, he says that he sent your boss a video of him crying his eyes out in happiness/relief when you won the play-off final. It seems like a very special friendship.

4. Are you afraid the former apprentice could get one up on his mentor?

I think it’s possible! There’s big pressure on Liverpool for this one. It’s an important week. We’re 3 points off the top four and in danger of falling away. We have you, Maribor (h) and West Ham (a) before the international break. Win all three and we’ll be right back in the mix in the league and flying high in our Champions League group, with Lallana and Mané expected to return soon. That has to be the target.

It will be extremely interesting to see how both managers match up in terms of playing style.

5. What do you know about Huddersfield Town?

Before Wagner arrived, not a lot! But a lot of Liverpool fans have kept an eye on your progress since Wagner arrived and also since Danny Ward moved last season. The bond you seem to have between the players/manager and the fans is admirable and you have been a breath of fresh air to the Premier League this season. Long may it continue – but not this weekend!

6. Do you think Huddersfield are the kind of side that could cause Liverpool trouble

You have some dangerous players in attack and your defence has also looked good so far too. Many thought that United were bound to come back and get a result last week but you didn’t allow them to. Aaron Mooy looks like a class act in the centre of the park. One thing that I’m hoping will work in our favour is that Jürgen will know exactly what he’s coming up against here. The same can be said of Wagner, but I’m hoping that our quality in the final third will see us through.

7. Pick one Huddersfield player you could take and drop into the Liverpool team and why

Christopher Schindler looks a talent at the back and we’re in desperate need of more talent at the back!

8. Line up & Score predictions

Predicting the line-up this week is a very tough one. Many Reds are hoping that last week was a bit of a watershed moment in terms of the use of Mignolet and Lovren and plenty are calling for Karius/Ward to come in and Gomez to play at centre-back.

I’ll go with: Mignolet, Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, Matip, Moreno, Henderson, Can, Coutinho, Salah, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Firmino. Would like to see that XI. The likes of Wijnaldum and Milner could get a game in midfield at the expense of Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Prediction: 3-2.

9. Any advice to travelling Huddersfield supporters.

Enjoy the day. I’m sure you will! Anfield is a special place and this should be a fascinating match-up between two exciting sides.

10. Anything else you would like to add

As I say, you’ve been a fantastic addition to the Premier League every season and most Reds are looking out for your scoreline every week! Best of luck for the rest of the season and enjoy your day on Saturday.
