On with the Interview!

1) Firstly, how do you see Leeds doing this season? Can you see yourselves improving and hitting the top end of the table come May?

It’s early days but I honestly think that this is our best team in years and once they begin to gel together then we will start to hit a bit of form and hopefully push up the table. I’d like to say we’ll finish top 6 but I do think there are a lot of teams that are far stronger than ourselves. What we do need to do is give Garry Monk time to get his ideas implemented. I think he’s a top manager and given time will get it right here, although if we lose to you on Saturday it wouldn’t be a massive surprise to see him sacked, which would cause outrage to our fan base – much to your delight I would expect!

2) What about your performances? Obviously, we know the results and have seen the league table but sometimes that doesn`t tell the whole story. In your opinion are you deserving of your current league position?

I think the league table is about right to be honest. We’ve been second best in the majority of our games this season and it is disappointing given the optimism I always have. QPR and Nottingham Forest both deserved their wins against us, I think if we’d have got the opener against Birmingham then we’d have gone on to win but we didn’t and we were made to pay for it. We drew with Fulham at home but they’ve been the best team I’ve seen us play so far this season. They were very good in possession, they were patient and created plenty of chances. Finally there’s the Wednesday game which I do think has been our best performance of the season, thankfully we won it!

3) What`s the general opinion of Garry Monk as your manager?

I think everyone loves him – I know I do. I thought he did a fantastic job at Swansea and was undeservedly sacked. As I said earlier I really want him to be given time, if it was me I’d give him at least two years in charge. He wants us to get the ball on the deck and play it out from the back which is something we’ve been starved with at Elland Road for years, but it will take time for him to get it right and for all the players to be comfortable. We can’t keep changing them after six games because it’s not good for the team and soon enough we’ll run out of managers to employ and we’ll be stuck with Steve Evans again.

4) Who should we look out for as your danger man?

Pablo Hernandez has undoubted quality – hence why he’s played for Valencia in the Champions League – but he’s been out of sorts to be honest. For me it’s got to be Hadi Sacko. We signed him on loan from Sporting Lisbon and apparently has a 60 million euro release clause. He looks like a very good player, he has pace and wants to run at defenders. He’s a very raw talent.

5) What formation will you likely play and what do you think your line-up will be?

Monk started the season with the 4-2-3-1 he used at Swansea but has since switched to a 4-4-2 to fit in Wood and Antonsson. I think that’s caused us to get overrun a lot in midfield so I can see him going back to 4-2-3-1 on Saturday. Eunan O’Kane should make his debut alongside Bridcutt and I can see Roofe coming in for Wood to allow Hernandez to play in his natural number 10 role. Antonsson up front looks a real gem, he loves to get in behind and stretch defence’s.

6) If you could have any current Leeds player, who would you sign?

Nahki Wells is the first player that comes to mind, I really wanted us to look at signing him when he was at Bradford but he obviously joined yourselves. I think we lack a player with his attributes up top – mainly pace and power. I saw Jack Payne for Southend in a game against Peterborough at London Road and he looked a tidy player. Very clever on the ball and loved arriving late in the box.

7) Finally, your prediction for the game?

I honestly haven’t got a clue what Leeds side will turn up. I just really pray we don’t get walked all over, especially at Elland Road. If we concede early you’ll win comfortably 3-0. If we can start well and get the fans on side then I think confidence will flow and we’ll win 2-0.

Thanks for your help.
