Following yesterday’s clash between Huddersfield Town and Liverpool, here are the instant reactions from both managers.

Huddersfield Town hosted Liverpool at the John Smith’s Stadium for a 7.45pm kick off on Tuesday January 30, with the visitors taking a three nil victory.

Emre Can’s deflected long range effort broke the deadlock 26 minutes into the game and Roberto Firmino doubled their advantage in first half stoppage time. A late Mohamed Salah penalty in the 78th minute wrapped things up on the evening.

Liverpool strengthened their position in the top four with the win, now sitting five points clear of Tottenham Hotspur in fifth place whilst Huddersfield now sit just one point above the dropzone.

Teams:

Huddersfield:

Lossl, Hadergjonaj, Jorgensen, Schindler, Kongolo, Lowe (Ince 79), Mooy (van La Parra 79), Hogg, Billing, Depoitre, Mounie (Quaner 63).

Substitutes:

Smith, Coleman, Pritchard, Hefele.

Liverpool:

Karius, Gomez, Matip, Lovren, Robertson, Can, Henderson (Wijnaldum 83), Milner, Salah (Oxlade-Chamberlain 83), Firmino (Solanke 89), Mane.

Substitutes:

van Dijk, Mignolet, Ings, Alexander-Arnold.

Speaking to the BBC’s cameras a short time after match day referee Kevin Friend blew the final whistle, Huddersfield head coach David Wagner explained.

‘I think no doubt the better side won today. We are not dreamers, if we want to get something from better sides, all the details need to go in your favour. We conceded an unlucky goal from 25 yards and before that we had the best chance in the game from Depoitre. It was a difficult night when all the details went against us.’

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp in his comparative interview explained.

‘It was exactly what we needed. It was not a brilliant performance, but it was very mature and exactly what we needed at the right moment. We could have done better, but we scored the first goal, we maybe gave one situation away, but it was difficult for Huddersfield to counter-attack. You need to win all the time, we know that. Coming back on track is the most important thing and now we have a few days to prepare for another difficult game against Tottenham. There is an open bill and we need to pay that back. Tonight we were better and the midfield did well with the counter press and that helped the back line. It was nearly perfect – not the performance, the result.’
