Huddersfield – Chairman Davy

From todays announcement on the ‘mutual termination’ of Peter Jackson contract as Huddersfield Town manager, it would seem that Chairman Ken Davy is determined to persue the clubs stated goals of becoming a top 30 league club by 2008, which we at Vital think is to be applauded.

Clearly the board had given Peter Jackson every opportunity to fulfill this goal and had waited until it was effectively impossible to achieve a play off place this season before acting.

When in 2008 is not clear, however given that the likely hood is we shall remain in L1 this season, (it is to be hoped we don’t drop into the relegation tussle), it would seem that the new manager will be under some pressure to achieve promotion next season 07/08 or at the least achieve a play off place with a view to promotion the following season 08/09.

The timing of Peter Jackson’s departure does not seem so strange with this in mind.

The new manager can hopefully stabilise the situation this season whilst taking a good look at the playing personnel, coaching etc, before making recommendations to the board and implementing plans in the close season for a determined effort to come over the following two seasons.

It would seem that we have a steely and determined chairman who will give every opportunity for the manager to fulfill the clubs plans, but also one who will take drastic action should it be needed.

Vital feel sure this will be welcomed by most fans, Mr Megson, Richie etc, be warned.
