Huddersfield Town have promoted their academy keeper Ryan Schofield to their first team squad ahead of their debut Premier League Season.

The 17-year-old academy graduate has been handed the number 31 shirt, and he will continue his work with former academy coach who was also recently recently promoted to the position of Head of Goalkeeping, Paul Clements.

Schofield enjoyed a fruitful summer featuring for the England U-20 side and after impressive performances for Leigh Bromby’s Under-18 side Ryan was awarded his first pro contract, sealing himself a deal with The Terriers until June 2019.

David Wagner spoke to the clubs Official Site

“Everyone knows that Ryan is a talented young goalkeeper; over the last season he impressed in both of our youth teams and for England.

“We could see him developing and that`s why we believe it is the right time for him to be in and around the First Team squad.

“Ryan has worked very closely with Clem (Paul Clements) over the last couple of years and knows him well, so that will suit him.

“He will now move into the First Team changing room and train with us every day whilst also continuing to play games for our Academy sides; this will help him develop.

“We always look at players in our Academy and want to help them progress and improve; this is the perfect time for Ryan to do that.

“I`m looking forward to working with him and helping him to get used to senior football during the next weeks and months.”

It’s always nice to see a local lad progressing and coming through the ranks, and from the sounds of it Schofield has a bright future, and as a goalkeeper a long career ahead of him! Good luck Ryan, we are sure you will keep up the progress and maybe one day be Huddersfield Town number 1!
