Alex Smithies and Adam Clayton have both come out in the press to stake their claim for the Huddersfield Town Club Captain role.

Smithies, a boyhood Town fan, and Clayton who has been a driving force for the Terriers this season both have credentials albeit that Smithies has stood in for Club Captain Peter Clarke this season after James Vaughan’s injury.

Clayton spoke to the Examiner, explaining that he would be ‘More than Happy to Do it’ but that ultimately it was down to the manager.

Some rumours suggest that Clayton could indeed get the nod as captain and potentially even a new deal this summer amid interest from other Championship sides as The Terriers look to build on a disappointing season, with sights set firmly on a Top 10 finish for next season.

The talk of captaincy changing hands is a bit premature with current club captain Peter Clarke still on the books but increasingly looks like the Championship fixture away at Watford could well be the final appearance in a 5 year Huddersfield Town career for Peter Clarke
