The academy team including first teamer Tom Clarke, were last night eliminated from the FA Youth Cup at Carlisle on a pitch more conducive to growing vegetables than playing football.

The extremely heavy conditions suited Carlisle’s direct and physical approach far more than Town’s usual neat passing style and despite taking a first half lead, the youngsters were beaten by two second half goals.

Town did have enough clear-cut chances to score more goals but unfortunately it wasn’t to be their night.
